TRANSLATION OF KOREAN-INDONESIAN SHORT STORIES: AN ANALYSIS OF CLASS AND SEMANTIC SHIFTS OF ADVERBS OF MODALITY

This study discusses class and semantic shifts of adverbs modality in the Korean short story its Bahasa Indonesia translation anthology ‘Langit dan Kupu-Kupu. aims to identify how original text change into a different word target text. The sources data this were six stories entitled ‘Dua Generasi yang Teraniaya’, ‘Seoul Musim Dingin 1964’, ‘Jalan ke Sampho’, ‘Bung Kim di Kampung Kami’, ‘Dinihari Garis Depan’, ‘Betulkah? Saya Jerapah’ Indonesian translation. was conducted using descriptive qualitative method, design linguistic corpus used collect analytical data. analysis results found that from 46 modality, four translated remained classified as adverbs. At same time, other ten words their pronouns, nouns, particles, adjectives, verbs. Additionally, 32 have combination classes. Furthermore, 290 adverb source text, 143 accurately translated, 100 deleted, 47 changed meaning TT. In Korean-Indonesian stories, shifting technique is adjust differences between grammar systems. Translators also make shift word's long they do not deviate context message ST produce natural TL readers can easily understand.
